My Latest Work! A Sprinkle of Glitter
one-liners by Alexis Rotella Alexis
Rotella has been called a superstar in the field of
Japanese forms written in English.
Endlessly innovative, she
experiments in A Sprinkle of Glitter
with how rich a single line
of poetry can get. Rotella's sensual awareness and
arched-eyebrow humor
cut through fragments of dreamscape drawings that unroll through the book in stream-of-consciousness fashion. "I wrote these one-liners one morning while sitting in the sun on my patio with my cat Rufus in Los Gatos, California...." Winner
of many poetry awards, Rotella won the
prestigious 2007 Kusamakura Haiku Award
in
Kumamoto, Japan.

| Welcome to my
blog. Please excuse its appearance. I am just
getting started. LATEST NEWS: I was the 2007 Grand Prize Winner for the Kusamakura Haiku Competition. The award was a trip to Kumamoto, Japan. The winning poem: Near dusk:
sound of the last fishing boat. Here is my haiga illustrating that poem. ![]() I was deeply honored that the Bay Weekly, published in Annapolis, Maryland, recently interviewed me and featured my experience as the cover story “Listening to Her Muse” in the February 28, 2008 issue. Here's the cover, designed by the Bay Weekly's Clara de Gonzalez Hall using the photo I took on the streets of Kyoto. ![]() You can read the full story online at: http://www.bayweekly.com/year08/issuexvi9/leadxvi9_1.html. While in Kumamoto, I was informed I had also won third place for the Prof. Richard Gilbert Award for the haiku poem illustrated by the following haiga which I created after I returned from my trip: ![]() Here
